White Water Rafting with R&R Rafting: April 23, 2003

This was an early morning... R&R Rafting picked us up at 6:40am.  It was a big double decker bus and they filled the whole thing.  We drove up to a little bar/restaurant where we watched a 30 min safety video and they had coffee and tea for those who drink it.  Then we still had another hour drive to the Tully River entrance.

We got on a raft with our guide, Ben (from Tasmania), a couple from Sydney, Ian (who is originally from Texas) and Kirsten (who is originally from the UK), and a dad and his two daughters.  The first half of the day was the bigger rapids (4's and 5's), but that also meant it was slow going because we had to go one at a time and wait for everyone to finish before moving on.

We stopped at the side of the river for a BBQ lunch - burgers and sausages.  It was really good but they didn't have quite enough food to fill everyone up.  All the guys were trying to get in line for seconds.  The second half of the day was much faster, smaller rapids - great scenery down the entire river!

We didn't get back to our hotel till 7:15pm.  Joe was starving!  All we had all day was the BBQ lunch... and for 12 hours that's not quite enough.  They didn't even provide water during the trip.  Overall the trip was great - the only downfall was the food and the beverages (or lack there of).
