| It turned out perfect that we fell asleep for the night at 6:30pm the
previous day because we slept all night long and then woke up pretty
much on Australia time. The hotel provided a small continental
breakfast for us so we got up, had breakfast, and were ready to be
picked up by 7:40am. They actually forgot to pick us up but
luckily another couple was also staying at our hotel so the van came by
our hotel.
It was a long 2 1/2 hour ride out to the outer barrier reef. It was a little windy so the waves were pretty big and there was lots of seasickness on our boat. They had paper bags for everyone and said to just throw it over the boat - "a hot meal for the fish". We didn't get sick but we did feel really queasy when we had to sit in the enclosed cabin of the boat for our diving brief. Click here for more pictures taken from the boat. |

| The first dive was terrible... the current was really strong and was
dragging us in the wrong direction, Joe didn't have enough weight so
we had to stay near the top where the current was even stronger, Amy
kind of panicked when we looked up and thought we were going for the
wrong boat. After that we started swimming for what we thought
was our boat - it was really hard to make it through the current but
we were slowly making progress. When we got close enough we
realized that this wasn't our even our boat... it was Reef Quest and
we were with Sea Quest (we saw the "Quest" from the
distance). Luckily they were nice enough to take us over to our
boat because we were out of air.
The second dive of the day was much better. It was a very relaxing dive and we didn't get lost at all. We stayed pretty shallow (the second dive is always more shallow than the first) and we both had the proper amount of weight on. Click here for more diving pictures. That night we went back to the Pier Marketplace to get Cameron and Nicholas some stuffed animals and then we ate at a restaurant right next to our hotel called Monsoons - a wood fire pizza and seafood restaurant. |
