| We left Phoenix, AZ at 7:03pm on Saturday, 4/19/03 and 2 layovers and
3 flights later we landed in Cairns, AUS on Monday, 4/21/03.... what
happened to Easter Sunday??? We didn't really run into any problems with
our flights. They were all pretty much on time and we had plenty
of time during our layovers. The only problem that we had was that
when we checked into our Phoenix-LA trip, they told us only 1 of us had
a seat because they over booked. Excuse me - what was the purpose
for our reservations?? But it worked out because we got on the
next flight 20 minutes later which didn't affect us at all. We
even lucked out and managed to get 4 seats in a row on the long flight
from the US to AUS.
When we arrived in Cairns (actually pronounced "cans") around noon on Monday we got a cab and drug all our luggage (2 large suitcases plus 2 scuba bags) to our Hotel - The Pacific International Hotel - which was not too far from the airport and right across the street from the marina. It turned out to be an ideal location for everything that we did. We weren't tired so we sat out by the pool (although it was drizzling slightly) and started our vacation with a couple drinks. Then we decided to walk over to the Marina where the Pier Marketplace was located which is basically a shopping mall. We did some souvenir shopping and then found a bar inside the marketplace with pool tables. Their pool is slightly different than our - smaller tables, smaller cue sticks, smaller balls, only red and yellow balls, etc. We left there to find some dinner but found that almost everything was closed due to "Easter Monday" (must be another excuse for a holiday). So we grabbed some Subway and ate at the hotel. The lack of sleep finally was catching up to us and we fell asleep by 6:30pm. |
