Palazza Pitti

Back to Florence page

The Plazza Pitti contained several museums of art.  We did not go through them though because we had just gotten out of the Uffizi Art Gallery.  The Boboli Gardens were behind the Plazza Pitti.  We went down the road and grabbed a small lunch before entering the gardens.  We found a small place that had great sandwiches - it really hit the spot.

The Palazzo Pitti was constructed in 1450. Luca Pitti, the local rival of the Medici family, ordered its construction. A century later, in 1549, the palace was purchased by the Medicis.  Inside this more than 200 meters wide facade visitors can experience how the late Medici family members lived.
