Day 1 (1/2/05) Sunday: Putting up the frame for the new wall
We got the frame for the whole wall up in one day.  Joe had worked out all the plans beforehand and everything went fairly well with no major problems.... amazing!

Day 2 (1/3/05) Monday: Time to start cutting a whole in the wall for the door
We ran into a bit of a problem... Joe broke out the sheetrock where the door was going to go only to find a PVC pipe going straightdown the middle of where the door would go.  How do you redirect the pipe without destroying the house??

Day 3 (1/5/05) Wednesday: Finding a new location for the door
We decided it would be easier to move the door than to try to redirect the pipe so Joe started banging out the rest of the wall.  We got to a point where there wasn't much wall left so he just took the entire wall out.  We now plan to put the door as close to Joey's door as possible (just on the other side of the closet).

Day 4 (1/8/05) Saturday: Electrical and New Door
Saturday was a long busy day.  We started work around 9:30 this morning and worked until 7:00pm.  We started out finishing up all the electrical work - put in 3 new outlets, 3 new junction boxes, and setup for a ceiling fan light switch.  Minus the lightswitch wiring and the hallway light fixture, we are done and ready to test.  We didn't have the right kind of wire for the light switch so we moved onto the door.  We got the door up with not too much difficultly.  Luckily we put our door frame up pretty level because the door ended up fitting in the opening pretty snuggly.  We shimmed up the sides a little to get the door to sit level (and still be able to close all the way) and nailed everything down.... we now have a door for the new room!

Day 5 (1/15/05) Saturday: Start of work on Closet
Today we removed the sheet rock ,cross beams, and electrical work from the outer wall of the closet.  We also emptied Joey's closet and remote the shelf in preparation for tomorrow's work.

Day 6 (1/16/05) Sunday: Continued work on Closet
Today we started out with removing the sheet rock from the inside wall of the closet.  After that we framed the two door opening for the double door closet entry.  And finished off the day rewiring the electrical over the top of the door way.  Things are really starting to take shape.

Day 7 (1/17/05) Monday: Continued work on Closet
Today was a miscellaneous wrap up day.  We cleaned up the sheet rock on the inside of the closet and located the end of the top piece of the sheet rock on the outside wall of the closet.  This got us ready for hanging the new sheet rock.  We also cut out the bottom opening to the two door way entrances to the closet.

Day 8 (1/19/05) Wednesday: Continued work on Closet
Tonight was a short night's work as we put up the MD framing of the two door ways into the closet.  It took us some time to get things lined up and level.  We probably spent more time and effort than we should have but we are hoping that this comes out looking good.  The good news now is that we are ready to start hanging sheet rock!

Day 9 (1/20/05) Thursday: Time to start putting up sheet rock!
Tonight we got started right after work.  Our goal was to get the sheet rock put up inside the closet.  We decided it would be best to start with something that won't be so noticeable (hey, we're learning...).  But everything worked out really good and the sheet rock went up pretty easily.  We had to do a bit of sanding to get some of the pieces to fit in where they needed to go but it all ended up fitting in pretty good.  So after the inside of the closet was done we decided to put one piece up in the hallway.  We had to cut a hole out for an electrical outlet and boy did we ever measure it exactly - the sheet rock fit perfectly around the outlet with no room at all for error - good thing we measured it correctly!

Day 10 (1/22/05) Saturday: More sheet rocking...
Today was another long day - but we got a lot accomplished and everything went well.  We finished putting the sheet rock up in the hallway so now the hallway done.  Then we decided to start on the new wall between our bedroom and the baby's room.  That is hard work on the knees!

Day 11 (1/23/05) Sunday: Still more sheet rocking...
Today was a shorter work day - we had some other things that we needed to get done over the weekend plus we were still a little tired from yesterday's long day.  We finished up the wall between our room and the baby's new room.  We have two completely separate rooms now!

Day 12 (2/??/05) Saturday: Taping and Mudding...
Today we started to tape all the seams in the dry wall and mud all the screw holes, corners, and seams.  We're really not sure what we're doing.  Some of the walls were somewhat easy because the dry wall lined up nicely but there were other areas that were not so easy.  We did as much as we could.

Day 13 (3/18/05) Friday: Time to get a contractor...
We decided to just get a contractor to finish the job for us.  We don't feel like we know what we're doing enough to finish it up and have it look good.  So Joe contacted some people and found us a contractor.  He's going to come out and look at the house and give us an estimate.

Day 14 (4/2/05) Saturday: Estimate Day
Today the contractor came out to the house and gave us a very good price to complete the taping and mudding and then to complete the wall texturing.  The best part is that he said that he would be able to start and complete all the work in one day.  So tomorrow he will be coming out to complete the job.

Day 15 (4/3/05) Sunday: Contractor get the job done
Well today started out like any other crazy day.  At 8:45 the contractor calls asking if we are canceling the job today.  I am very surprised and tell him "NO".  Anyways the deal is that someone spoke with him at Home Depot and told him to cancel for today.  Long story but it is a good thing Fernanado called us.  So the guys get here from Home Depot about 9:30 and get started on the job.  The guys make a couple trip back to Home Depot for more supplies and go out for some lunch and continued working here until after 5:00pm.  A long day of work but everything looks great.  We are now down to the home stretch on the new room.

Day 16 (4/9/05) Saturday: Getting some work done...
Today Sarah had a volleyball tournament so the goal today was to get some work done.  Amy would take Sarah to the tournament and I would get a few hours of work in and then cleanup and me and Joey would meet the girls at the tournament.  Knowing that I only had  few hours I focused on a small section of the work.  First I sanded all the walls since after the texture was applied it all needed a very light sanding to smooth it out.  After that I caulked our bedroom and the wall in the hallway.  After that I had just enough time to complete two coats of paint to the our bedroom and the hallway and it was time to cleanup and head out to the volleyball tournament.

Day 17 (4/13/05) Wednesday: Getting some work done...
We are basically running out of time so I took a day off to get some work done.  Today I put in a very long day of caulking, painting, framing doorways, some baseboard, ...  I basically worked from 9:30am until after 6pm.  The funny part is that I was sore for days.  All the work on my knees and bending took a toll on my back.  But the room is coming along very nice.

(4/15/05) Friday: Carpet
Today the carpet guy is coming out for an estimate at 5-6pm.  Well, he was suppose to be coming.  At 6:30 I called him and he said he was really busy and forgot.  So he is now coming Saturday morning around 11am.

Day 18 (4/16/05) Saturday: Getting some work done...
Today started out very aggravating.  I went to the paint store to get another 5 gallons of paint.  I called but no one answered.  Then I got there and the stored was actually closed today for inventory.  So now I drove to another store.  When I got to this store location they told me they didn't have the paint that I wanted.  So they called another store that had it.  To make a long story short I finally got home around 11:30 with the paint I needed.  I basically just drove around for an hour and 45 minutes just to get paint.  Not a good start. When I pulled up in front of the house I realized that I was late for the carpet guy.  He was suppose to be at the house at 11.  The phone rings about noon and the carpet guys says he will be late.  At least that worked out.  So I meet with the carpet guy, get a price, make a deposit and next week we will get the new carpet installed.  In the meantime I picked up right where I left off on Wednesday.  Again putting up baseboards, making trips to Home Depot, calking, and painting.  Today was another long day of work as that ended after 6pm.

Day 19 (4/17/05) Sunday: Getting some work done...
Today was just more of the same except by the end of the day everything was pretty much wrapped up.  All that is left now is building the closet, installing the ceiling fan, picking up a room full of tools and supplies, and getting the new carpet installed.

Day 20 (4/23/05) Saturday: Closet time
Today Amy helped me build the closet.  We had to get some more supplies from Home Depot but after that we quickly put things together.  After that the fun of prepping things, calking, and then two coats of paint.  Now we just had to let it dry.

Day 21 (4/24/05) Sunday: Closet
Today Amy and me moved Joey's and Antonino's clothes into the closet.  We also went through all of the stuff that was in the closet and got everything put back.  We also finished up getting everything from the upstairs guest room where I was storing all my tools and supplies.  The room looks GREAT and all that is left to start putting together the baby's room is the carpet which will be installed this week.  The only thing left outstanding is to install the ceiling fan that we already ran the wires to.  This was a long process but it saved us a lot of money and came out very good.
