Scuba Diving Certification

Catalina, CA - Avalon

May 11-14, 2000

This was a 4 day trip to Catalina.  The group consisted of only 4 of us: Joe, Amy, our dive instructor (Darrell Dupree), and our dive master (Paula Chonczynski).  We (Joe, Amy, Paula) drove to Long Beach, CA Thursday morning where we met Darrell at the ferry station.  We took the Catalina Express from Long Beach to Avalon (on Catalina Island).  Friday morning we went out on the Prince Neptune to two dive locations.   The first was Pirates Cove.  There is a cave at this location that is a very popular movie shot.  The second location was Garibaldi's Reef.  We saw a Harbor Seal swimming near the boat.

Saturday we went to Casino Point and did 3 shore dives.  After the first two, we were CERTIFIED!  So we were able to go on the next dive all by ourselves!

Sunday morning, we got up early with Paula and went for a final dive.  It was a great dive but we ended up kind of far from the exit point so had to snorkel back. After that, we had to catch the ferry back to Long Beach and then drive home.

Thanks Sam for watching our dogs for us so that we could make this trip!!!
