We drove up to Slide Rock Park one day for a nice picnic and some time to play in the water.  But unfortunately, we arrived to find that the water was closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water.  No swimming allowed - couldn't even put your feet in the water to cool off.  But we had driven 2 1/2 hours up there and weren't about to just turn around and go home so we stayed and had a nice picnic lunch.  There weren't many people there so we were able to use the picnic area at the pavilion - which was wonderful because even though it was cooler than Phoenix... it was still really warm.
